Oh, for Pete's sake. I wrote the whole entry, then went to insert the damned image, and everything disappeared.

Okay, here's a progress photo:

Summary:

I started it July 14th. Bought the yarn just before leaving on vacation. On a whim. Rare that I do this, try to keep startitis in check, yadda yadda.

Knit about 6 inches, discovered I'd been given the wrong colour of glitter yarn -- Azur instead of the Turquoise I'd asked for (in shops here, you are served, rather than serving yourself. Yes, I should have checked. But I trusted the salesperson. Go figure.)

Went to different Phildar shop in Strasbourg, got right colour glitter, was told that Kiwi green is NOT discontinued (though I'd managed to find a couple of balls of that, so hadn't used the Bambou I'd been given as a substitute).

Too discouraging to start over from scratch a third time (...oh...yeah...had started once and cast on the wrong number of stitches, ripped out once already). So I strung a needle through the last correct row, ripped the rest out, and started the Turquoise section with the right glitter yarn held with the Turquoise cotton. It's looking spiffy, as you can see above.

One of the things I'm doing to avoid as many ends as possible is working the pieces on a circular needle. There are a number of odd colour rows, and instead of rejoining the yarn at the other end, I just shift the knitting, and start again with the new colour at the other end. It means you may knit or purl two rows in a row, but since you're still working with a knit or purl row facing, it always ends up being stockinette stitch.

And I have very few ends, between that and carrying the yarns up wherever possible.

I always try to use each project as a learning experience. I hated the ends so much on The Other's Technicolour Pullover that I knew I had to do something to avoid them whenever I could on this one. If it's not clear, let me know, and I'll try to take some pictures to show you what I mean.

Judith, essentially this is a maize maze, same kind of deal, you pay to get lost . But it's fun, and a good way to spend an afternoon.

The sweater *is* really lovely. I'm ever so pleased with it. It's been good easy knitting, just what I need right now when it's very hot, and I'm spending a goodly portion of the day watching the Tour de France...

wow I am going to try it. it looks so good but I will try in my stash yarn so I expect it will take forever!!
