Hi, K.,
Your work looks really good; better than I recall mine looks.
As that statement suggests, I’m having a little bit of a problem with
Princess. When I stopped working on it – just before my vacation last year - I wrapped up the shawl and pattern and put
it Somewhere.
Anyway, about ending the row. It took me a while to get used to dealing with those last 70 stitches, but like you - and as Lone noted in the comment to your post – it eventually became kinda automatic. I think that ultimately I just worked along the row til I had about 6 stitches remaining, then looked at it and decided what to do. Or, I consulted the beginning of the row to see what was done there, since the ends are just mirror images. Give that a try.
And after Row 180. Em…not having the pattern in front of me, I’m at disadvantage, but I think you’re talking about what Sharon calls the “sprout” motif? That spot where on 1 side of the shawl it points to the left and on the other side it points to the right? I remember looking at that but I don’t recall I came to any definitive conclusion about how to handle the chart. I think I toyed with the idea of scanning the relevant section of the pattern and then doing a left-right flip of the image using the image editing software on my computer.
And thanks to Lone for the alert about the chart being slightly off. Will make a note to watch out for that when I get to row 180.
Will close. I need to go buy a book case.

Oh. I would ask "why didn't I think of that?" regarding scanning and flipping the chart, but the Luddite in me already knows why I didn't think of that.
And I second the thanks to Lone for dropping the reminder about the chart being off in the comments -- somewhere around here I had a note to that effect, but as you've discovered, if you set anything to do with this shawl aside somewhere safe, and then don't come back to it for six months or more, it's safe, all right, but virtually lost.

Wow! I stumbled across this blog through some convoluted route of knitting blogs....and I've spent far too much time (shhhhh - don't tell anyone - I'm at the office) reading about your experiences knitting up this amazing shawl.
On one of the posts you likened the project to a marathon -- well, I've run two of those, and I've knit a few 'marathon' projects -- so I'm going to suggest (with due respect) that this is closer to an ultra-marathon (let's say 60 miles), in the desert (perhaps, or up and down mountains, or possible both is such a thing existed)...
Hope the infrequent posts in 2007 are more a sign of pacing than abandoning the project. Can't wait for the next update!

I just found your blog (via a series of links I could never repeoduce), and I am amazed. I've been a marathon spectator many times, and a knitting spectator only rarely, so I'll be cheering you on and handing out whatever the knitters' equivalent of Clif Bars and Gatorade (chocolate anything and wine?). I'm so impressed, and can't wait to see your next posts!
