Hello everyone, I'm Katherine Matthews, the host of this newly launched music podcast: Funky Eclectic.
Here's a bit of background:
I started podcasting with a couple of podcasts — Cinéfolle, about movies, and Purl Diving, a knitting podcast — whose episodes mix talk with a piece or two of music selected to fit the theme of the episode. Some of you may have arrived here knowing me from those podcasts, or perhaps through my wabi sabi knitting (mostly) blog. If you found my podcast through other paths, welcome. Regardless of how you arrived at the shownotes for Funky Eclectic, I hope you'll enjoy listening to the podsafe music I've assembled for each episode.
In the process of selecting just the right pieces of podsafe music to complement each episode, I came across many wonderful songs that never quite found a place in either of my podcasts. I felt it was a shame that I couldn't find a way, apart from an occasional "music only" holiday special episode, to share more of these musical finds with my listeners.
The final push for me to launch a music podcast came when I offered to help out a fellow podcaster, Bob Goyetche, in his attempt to reach 50 episodes of his Mostly Tunes music podcast in time for Podcasters Across Borders 2007. He accepted my offer and I put together an episode for him; he didn't quite make it to 50 in time for PAB2007 but it did give me the confidence to launch my own music podcast.
All that was left was to find an appropriate name. Nothing was suggesting itself, or if it did, it had already been taken, either for a podcast or as a domain name. I asked my husband to sum up my musical tastes in two words and he said "Funky and eclectic!" — I quickly checked and found the domain name funkyeclectic.com was available, which I took as sign that this was meant to be.
The domain was registered and I set about putting together the first few episodes culminating with the launch of the podcast.
I hope you enjoy the podsafe music showcased in each episode and I encourage you to visit the websites of the artists and on-line music services that you will find listed in each episode's shownotes. Please support the artists and labels, who have generously made their works freely available for use in podcasts, by purchasing tracks from them.
You can download individual episodes from the shownotes; just follow the instructions you'll find in the notes. You can also subscribe to the podcast's RSS feed by clicking on the button in the sidebar. If you need a little more explanation, please see the "Subscribing to the Podcast" Page (link in the sidebar).
